The district of Alfama is part of Lisbons old town, located close to the fortress, and known as Lisbons first district. The character of Alfama in its narrow alleys and steep stairs exudes a mediaeval flair.

June is a very special month in Alfama. The whole district celebrates its patron saint “Santo Antonio”. The celebrations are always used to be a popular touristical attraction. The traditional festivities are celebrated by excessive street parties, loads of music, and unrestless dancing.
