Baixa Lisbon

Category: Lisbon Districts – admin – 8:30 pm

The wide pedestrian zone called “Rua Augusta” is located in the district of Baixa. Rua Augusta serves as main artery of Lisbons business and bank quarter. The whole district arose in 1755 after an horrible earthquake.

At the beginning Baixa was the home of the craftsmen. Every craft guild had its own street in the district. Today only the names of the streets remind on that tradition.

Baixa is full of busy people during the day, but after closing hour the whole district looks extinct. Baixas popular restaurant Tivoli Terraco offers a fabulous view from the 9th floor of the Tivoli Hotel.
