The white high dome of the church serves as national hall of fame for the most important sons of Portugal. In 2001 also a famous daughter Portugals found place in that kind of the hall of fame. It was the Fado queen Amalia Rodrigues.
The construction works for the Panteao started in 1570. In 1630 a devilish rascal destroyed the first constructions. Just before his execution he presaged that this church will never be completed. There was some truth in his words indeed. The final construction works of the Panteao were finished in 1966.

The well-proportioned building has harmonic colours and forms inside to admire. An elevator leads on a terrace on the top of one of the mighty domes. The wonderful panorama from that place is overwhelming.
The Panteao is located on the Campo de Santa Clara. Every Tuesday and Saturday is the time of Lisbons flea market at this square.
