Praco do Comercio is the square of commerce, and located in the district of Baixa. The square is surrounded by glamorous houses with arcades on three sides. One side is open and lead to the Tejo river.
Before the earthquake in 1755, the square was the location of the Royal residence. The centre of the square stands still the equestrian statue of King Jose I. King Jose I was responsible for the reconstruction of Lisbon after the natural disaster.
