The square of Rossio is simple to explain. There is always something going on. Some people describe Rossio even as the heart of Lisbon.
In the centre of the square stands a monument of King Pedro IV. The square is dedicated to him, because his nickname among Lisbons citizens was “Rossio”.

On the north of the square is the location of the national theatre. Two traditional coffee houses are also part of Rossios glory neighbourhood. Their names are “Suica” and “Nicola”.
Just some steps away from the square is the place of the Rossio railwaystation. The main entrance of the station, which has the form of a horse shoe, is an attraction of its own.
