Basilica da Estrela is the most important sight of Lisbons noble district called “Lapas”. The holy building was erected in 1777. The order came from Queen Maria I, who lived from 1734 to 1816), because she was so happy about the birth of a successor to the throne.

The front of the basilica has a neo-classical style with loads of artistically seeming marble statues.
Basilica da Estrela impresses most of its visitors by the marvellous white dome, which is an essential element of Lisbons skyline. The dome is walkable and offers a wonderful view over the whole city.
The basilica even has a park. The small city park “Jardim da Estrela” is located directly next to the building, and is the perfect resting place on hot summer days.
