The Santa Justa Elevator is one of Lisbons most interesting sights.
The lovely construction was designed by a pupil of Gustave Eiffel, and opened in 1902. During the first five years of its existing, the elevator was operated by steam power. Since 1907 the elevator is powered by electricity.
The height of the elevator amounts 45 metres. 25 person can go up or down in each of the two cabins. The elevator was designed in a romantic neogothic style, and offers a wonderful view over Lisbon and the Tagus river on the top of the platform.
